At long last, the first of the Ampsmith Custom Shop Amplifiers.

It is an EL34 based amp (50 watt) that is a blend of a Marshall and a Trainwreck (Ken Fischer). You can set up the volumes (preamp and post phase inverter master) for all out shred or an extremely dynamic picking/guitar volume control sensitivity. The Trainwrecks are generally heralded as possibly the most dynamic amp in existence.

I lovingly refer to the amp as a Plainwreck (Plexi + Trainwreck).

This is a handwired amp. No printed circuit boards. Chassis mounted ceramic tube sockets, controls and jacks.

Custom colors are available...snakeskin, anyone?

$1199.00

I am showcasing the amp by appointment only. Contact me to set up a time.

"The Plainwreck"

Sound clips were recorded using an Ernie Ball Axis guitar into the Plainwreck feeding a Bogner 4 x 12 cab loaded with (2) Celestion Vintage 30s and (2) Celestion Greenbacks in an "X" configuration. Close mic'd with a trusty Shure SM57 into an ART Studio tube preamp feeding a (gulp!) TEAC cassette recorder (don't ask!) and later captured from tape to the computer (250 ms. slapback echo added). Three clips have the mic in front of a Greenback and two feature the Vintage 30:

Vintage 30 Clip 1 - Clean to Mean in 5 seconds!
Vintage 30 Clip 2
Greenback Clip 1- Master Volume on "2", Preamp Volume on "2"
Greenback Clip 2- Master Volume on "2", Preamp Volume on "2"
Greenback Clip 3 - Higher Gain

The above clips played courtesy of Joe Dzialak.

"It is the most dynamic amp I've ever played through and everybody seems to say that about it...I adjust my guitar's controls a lot when I play and this amp responds to both the axe and your fingers in amazing ways!" - Holt Vaughn, California Road Studios
