Mike's great! He never fails to outperform my expectations, whether it's reverse engineering something without a schematic to bring it back to life, or re-engineering it to make it do what I want. Couple that with his honesty and fair prices, and I have no reason to look anywhere else for service on my tube amps.

"Mike, I want to take a moment to thank you for the excellent work you have done on some of my amps over the last few years. I have brought you some "out of the ordinary" pieces (Sundown Head and a couple of Garnets), and you have always been able to quickly diagnose and fix the problem... I never feel like I have to worry about the bill, and you always give me an idea ahead of time what may need to be done. Your service rates are fair, and more importantly you are very efficient in your work. You really know what you're doing. When I need one of my amps fixed and fixed right, I'll always bring it to you. Thanks again."

Mike at Ampsmith does great work. I couldn't be happier with what he did for my Valve Junior. He understands what guitarists are looking for...Ampsmith rocks! They recently modified my Epiphone Valve Junior into a screaming little recording amp. I strongly suggest checking them out. Look him up if you neeed repairs/modifications for bass and guitar amps.

Hey Mike, I just wanted to drop you a line regarding the fantastic work you did modifying my Fender Blues Junior. It has such a warm and rich tone that I'm finding new tonal possibilities out of my guitar I didn't even know I had. My Blues Junior is my main amp now and it sounds freakin' fantastic. You've done it again my friend!

I had a chance to use the amp last weekend. I was very happy with the modification! I can now play at 2 or 3 and still have sustain and presence in either channel. Awesome job Mike, thank you!

I found my amp dilapidated and forgotten in an attic: four different tubes, dirty, dusty, and in general...busted!!! The Ampsmith turned a hopeless case into a player's dream. Anyone who cares about their tone can now know where to turn for good advice and real, dependable help. My search for tone is made a labor of love--not frustration--thanks to The Ampsmith.

In years past having seen numerous repairs, refurbs and "recap" jobs performed on a variety of amps, I have found superior service in my dealings with Ampsmith. During my first few visits to Ampsmith, my particular area of concern was on the repair of a half dozen mid sixties blackface and silverface Fenders. In numerous live performances and recording sessions from New York to Tampa and California to Nashville, I truly do rely on these amplifiers for optimum performance without sacrificing the integrity of the unit by replacing "everything that looks old." Since there is much sonic mojo to be found in old amps, a repair task can rapidly become a balancing act of replacing only what is absolutely necessary as the unnecessary replacement of components can adversely alter the tonal characteristics which made the unit desirable in the first place! On the recent Headers CD release entitled "Turn It Up," all the guitar tracks were performed on two 1968 Deluxe Reverbs and a vintage Maestro amp, all of which were repaired and slightly modified by Mike at Ampsmith. For a fellow such as myself who does not read specs and uses his ear as his guide, Ampsmith has exceeded my expectations by the prioritization of an amp's audio quality before profit margin!

Hi, I'm the one that brought in that Epiphone Valve Special. Finally had a chance to play it at band practice. Boy that thing sings now! The other guitarist refuses to believe its only 5 watts, lol. Freaking Awesome Job! Thanks so much!

I played Tuesday Night at Brennans for Jam ... full backline, so I cranked up (Fender Super Sonic) .. everything sounded stellar .. kept in on the burn channel and rode the volume and used my overdrive pedals .. Wednesday went to the Tap Room for a blues jam .. used the burn channel again even though these guys like it clean, but because of the mod I could have it clean .. lower gains and higher master volume = output tube goodness with some clipping/od when you drive volume or picking ..today I set it up a little different .. cranked the master volume on the burn channel and saw just how clean it can go .. pretty damn clean .. then dialed it up and in until I got the distortion that like but could dial back (on the guitar's volume) and clean it up .. works very, very well .. ok .. its gone beyond sounding good to me .. now there are guys with amp envy .. I had the amp out at brennans again last night .. it cranked .. guys were coming up going "what amp is that, it sounds amazing" ...

Just wanted to say thanks to Mike (http://www.ampsmith.com) who did a great job with my Epiphone Valve Jr. amp work. He did a "studio mod" which included lowering the overall noise and adding a 3-position switch. Position 1 doesn't color the sound much so it sort of acts as a bypass. Position 2 acts as a bright mode and position 3 adds 6 dB gain. The amp sounds great at any volume and gives tones from nice and clean to down and dirty. Only knock, limited low end from the small speaker but who's complaining given the form factor. This is now a great studio amp that is also ideal for small gigs. Thanks Mike!

Mike, You did some work for me a while back fixing up an old Sears Silvertone. Your workmanship was excellent, your customer service was amazing, and your price means that I can come back for more.
